Is Facebook Lottery By The Igboist Millionaire Club A Scam?
Few months after so many Ponzi saga, to mention but a few; MMM, Twinkas, and co. A new trend began on Facebook by the ending of December 2017, a program through a Facebook group chat known as “Igboist, Igboist Extra, and Igboist Worldwide” to empower different people through a contribution that gives one the right to participate in the draw. Where lucky winners will be selected after a draw on 27th of every month, starting from January 2018.
The group is a popular group on Facebook, housing over a million members of Igbo origin who share different ideas together, the group was founded by Hon. Maria Ude who also said the group has been into existence since the year 2009 linking Igbo people from different part of the world. Severally on her posts, she had said the group has different workers ranging from group admins, moderators, and graphic designers etc.
At the last weeks of December 2017, was a post about a draw, titled Igboist Millionaire Club abbreviated as IMC, and which is categorized into the following:
Category one, two and three. Abbreviated as C1, C2, and C3 respectively.
The pioneer, who happened to be a member of the Ebonyi State house of representatives, aged 47 years, in her post on Facebook wrote the following.
What is Igboist Millionaire Club?
IMC is a lottery based system of us empowering and enriching each other. It is very sustainable, as sustainability is the most important factor in any program. It took me five years to arrive on this. This is not a hit and run program. This is something that will achieve even more than expected of it. Hundreds of winners will emerge every last Saturday of the month. Some will win over a million Naira. That is why it’s a Millionaire club. This method is rancor-free. And that is very important for our oneness and unity. Currently, there are three categories:
Category 1 [C1]:
50,000 Igboists will contribute 1,000 Naira each. 20 winners will get 1 million Naira Each. 20 winners will get 200k each. 170 winners will get a 100k each. 25 winners will get 60k each. A total of 235 winners on C1.
Category 2 [C2]:
50,000 Igboists will contribute 3,000 Naira each. 40 winners will get 1.5 million Naira each. 90 People will get 500k each. 80 people will get 250k each. 25 winners will get a 100k each. A total of 235 winners on C2.
Category 3 [C3]:
50,000 Igboists will contribute 5,000 Naira each. 50 winners will get 2 million Naira each. 60 winners will get 1 million Naira each. 100 winners will get 250k each. 150 winners will get 140k each. A total of 360 winners on C3.
You may participate in all categories to increase my odds of winning. The IMC draws will take place every 27th of the month, in a live coverage, to be seen by all. Only the 1st 150,000 Igboists that pay will participate in the January draw. The rest will be moved to February draw.
This will be repeated every month. And yes, you may take part in all 3 categories to increase your chances, if you wish. If you want to pay for more than 1 category, calculate the total sum and pay it at once if you wish. Example, to pay for all three categories, you may pay in 9000 naira, rather than do it one by one. And on the payee post, you follow the instructions.

You will not be left behind. Not a single name will be left behind.
How are we going to ensure that winners invest their money wisely?
To IMC Future winners: You can lead a horse to a stream, but you can’t force it to drink. You and only you will decide what you do with your win. The management of Igboist cannot force you to do anything. There will be IMC Coaches to help you and guide you but cannot force you to do anything. What you do with your win is totally up to you. My duty is to make sure that I provide any guidance you need.
How will the winners be chosen and will it be fair?
They are currently 3 tiers. Category 1, Category 2, and Category 3. Known as C1, C2, & C3. And currently, there are 4 prizes in each tier. The names of contributors in each category will be put up for balloting. This will be done on Facebook Live and subsequent ones on live TV, NTA. The names in each tier will be picked 4 times, the 1st pick is the 1st prize, and so on and so forth. This will be done with the utmost fairness and transparency. The transparency is of this program will be my GREATEST STRENGTH so it can not be compromised for anything on this earth.
Can I participate in all categories to increase my chances of winning? Yes.
Can I pay multiple times in any of the categories? Yes. But make sure to indicate so on the payee thread”
Thousand of people if not millions, turn out in mass to participate in categories of their choice and many more other people participated in all the categories to increase their chances of winning.
Many of the participants haven’t met her in real life according to their comments but solely believe in her to be of great help to them as she is seen giving out to people both on the social media and offline and equally as a political office holder who has good reputation and would try to avoid anything that will pour a black ink on her.
A special account was created to receive donations from the participants.
Although it was stated clearly that everyone will not or cannot emerge a winner in the program and no additional taxes for the winners as they will conclude on that with the Nigerian Lottery Regulatory Commission. Here’s an excerpt from her post on Facebook;
ON TAXES: Earlier, we set aside 5% for legal matters and taxes. But on meeting with lottery commission representatives; so as to ensure the legality of all we do; in this program; we discovered it will entail us paying about 25% to the commission. We are making them understand that this is just a family lotto based empowerment program. We are willing to pay a percentage, but they should consider our situation and adjust their percentage. We have yet to conclude with them, once we do, I will state it to you all.”
The draw date was said to hold on the 27th of January, 2018 with a live video which was posted on her Facebook timeline, I tried going through the live video but could figure out very well how the draw went, due to poor camera/graphic on the video.
A thread was created to notify everyone about announcement of the result on the 28th of January 2018 by 3:00 pm, which latterly on the 29th of January a list appeared on the group containing the names of the winners and the amount won, various participants were very happy to see their names or name of their friends who won. Some were even happy that those people were lucky to win and they will partake in the February draw, as it could be their own time to shine.
At that very stage, everything seemed to move smoothly with some persons having little doubt about how legit or fair was the draw and the people selected whose name appeared publicly on the list.
Not until a lady who happened to be the 3rd person on the list under category one, by name Vivian Dike shared what she claimed to be her proof of payment. received from the program. Trust social media users, they were very observant to notice something unusual on the acclaimed credit alert which begun to raise dust through comment. The unusual includes the account number that became 8 in digit (Acct: 100**039) instead of the usual 10 digits and the abbreviation CR: and DR: misplaced on the SMS.
In the comment section, people tried to pour out their anger and question why the names of all the participants were not listed so as to show maximum transparency, in a few hours later, comments were disabled on some posts containing such complains and even finally moved/deleted. No clear reasons were stated concerning the removal of the threads from the group as of the time this post was published.
The same programme is expected to take place come next month February and beyond.
This article will be updated regularly to keep you enlightened about the current the draw happening on Facebook.
